DESIGN OVERVIEW

VISTA RV CROSSOVER DESIGN

The original design was based on the philosophy that we wanted to create an off-road camper trailer capable of going anywhere a four-wheel drive could go that was easy to use and boasted a high level of comfort.

Since the original design in 2006, we have maintained this philosophy and continued to release improvements and new variants that are as comfortable as they are practical.

The black, bold, sans-serif number "01" centered on a white background.

A mix of various materials combined to produce a strong and durable system. Roof elements are fibreglass; side walls are fibreglass-faced and vacuum-pressed composite panels. Front and rear are enclosed with sheet metal assemblies providing an ideal medium for strength and integration of various attached secondary elements.

Large, bold, black text reading "02" on a plain white background.

The wheel system uses standard 16×8 – 6 stud wheels with 265-70 R16 tyres and makes use of an electric brake system modified for off-road.

The black number 03 displayed in a bold, sans-serif font on a white background.

Jig assembled and hot-dip galvanised after fabrication. Lateral tube members interface with chassis rails to produce a torsion-rigid system.

The number "04" in large, bold black sans-serif font on a white background.

The exterior kitchens can vary slightly depending on the model but are large, stainless-steel roll-out types with a 2-burner gas cooktop, stainless-steel sink, large drawer and storage space.

The number 05 written in a bold, black sans-serif font against a white background.

The MS Series suspension has been extensively tested and has an amazing 330 mm/13" wheel travel.

It’s smoother; it’s soft, but it’s tough.

Using 10 (five per side) neoprene rubber bushes encased in a metal jacket and centre mount, this allows the control arms and asymmetric link to articulate up to 90 degrees. These bushes are proven and tested over 1000s of kilometres across Australia and are used in serious off-road vehicles.

The MS series suspension has not one but two bushed front unequal-length control arms designed to keep the hub in a vertical plane, keeping the shock absorber mounts parallel to each other, avoiding side and torsion loads whilst working together, and delivering a smooth shock-absorbing ride.

Our suspension design has a fully boxed cross member tying the two main chassis rails as part of a rigid construction also acting as a torsion box tube. The chassis has four torque tubes, three front and one rear of the suspension, to maintain a rigid platform for the Crossover Van.

Bump steer has been an inherent problem with previous lateral link types of suspension until now. The radical new geometry on our MS series suspension is designed to absorb change in weight load and will almost totally eliminate bump steer.

This is a great step forward from existing suspension systems, offering a more relaxing drive and peace of mind.

Improvements and upgrades to the current design are an ongoing process at Vista RV. We intend to maintain our position as a leader in the innovation and design of high-quality campers in Australia.

REVIEWS & TESTIMONIALS

Choosing the right off-road camper trailer is an important lifestyle decision, and it’s just as important to have great support from the company that you purchase from.

Vista RV Crossover has an amazing and well-earned reputation for quality, design and support – all confirmed by a range of reviews, customer testimonials and articles in popular camping magazines.

Blown away by its good looks

During Covid we started looking at off road campers, dreaming of escape. We spent a lot of time researching the many off road campers available on the market and refining what we thought our requirements would be. We wanted a rugged camper that wouldn’t limit our destinations, good towability, compact without compromising comfort and storage, easy setup, and able to fit into our garage.

When we finally had the opportunity to view the Vista Crossover XLI we were blown away by its good looks, quality fit out and finish. It ticked all the boxes for us.

Throughout the build Chantelle proactively kept us in the loop on progress with regular contact and photos which was very much appreciated.

Amber showed us the ins and outs of everything in great detail (which by the time we actually picked her up, forgot most of it!) When we took delivery Louie helped us hook her up and the very next day we set off for a couple of weeks away, it all came back – it was easy!

The Vista team have provided excellent personal customer service and the whole experience has exceeded our expectations.

We have named her Lola, full name Lola la Vista!

They Keep Getting Better

We have owned three Crossovers - a Classic, and XL and currently an XLI - since 2010 and have loved each one. The problem is they keep making them better...

The combination of practicality, comfort, engineering and rugged construction makes them hard to beat. They are easy to tow, quick to set up and comfortable to live in. We have taken them to places like the Wonangatta Valley in Victoria and the Gibb River Road in Western Australia with never a worry. They are equally at home in the dusty Outback or on High Country trails. We have never had a dust leak despite endless kilometres of bulldust.

Thank you Vista!

We have just returned from our second, brief (Covid time) camp in our new Vista . It is our third Vista and they just keep getting better every time.

We started with a Classic then an XL and now an XLE. The new roof line and higher bench make it feel a lot bigger again. The new inside, outside Porta Potty access door covers that problem extremely well if we ever need to use it. The drop down shower/ toilet area is so fast and easy to set up. We wanted the outside fridge to go with the outside kitchen. We chose to keep the above fridge space for storage rather than leaving it open. We have the shelve model above the fridge and it is a very handy space inside and out.

The 110 liter Australian made RF Model Evakoolgives us more room than we need for extended trips up North in the Winter. The large frozen section allows for a lot of pre cooked, portion packed food as well as ice for G n T. My wife loves camping under the stars. This way she gets all five of them. The XLE exceeds our expectations. Thanks to the whole Team at Vista RV.

Setup and Go!

It's so good that we can live in them for 4 to 5 months a year, it's nice and compact and everything is in there that you would have in a caravan.

10 Years and Counting

Nearly 10 years on and our Vista RV Crossover XL is still going strong after travelling the Savannah Way, the Great Central Road, Oodnadatta track, Cape York and the Anne Beadell Highway (photos 2022 on AB). As well as the classic trips we have happily lived in the van when touring around Tasmania for 3 months, Queensland for 5 months, Western Australia for 7 months and numerous short trips into the Victorian high country.

We Bought a Second One!

Jill and I sold our first Vista RV Classic... and were so impressed by it that we bought a second! This time a Vista RV XLI. Our first was bought by a mate who had seen it in action many times.

They have been our haven in storms, and we have taken them from FNQ, to the Kimberley, to Tasmania, the High Country of Victoria and many places in between in every state of Australia.

Thanks Louis, Amber and the team at Vista.

Vista's Knowledge is Second to None

We purchased our Vista XLI in October 2023 and we could not have asked for better care and service! Chantelle was amazing with her communication, experience, and her approachable attitude, no question we had was an issue. On handover, Amber’s extensive knowledge of the Vista was second to none. It got us so excited and eager to hit the road with our new home on wheels! We absolutely love it!!

Met all our expectations and beyond.

We picked up our new Vista RV in April 2023 and it has met all our expectations and beyond. We love that it’s so quick and easy to set up, done in minutes.

Very easy to tow, ample storage, great for weekends away and for longer trips. We would highly recommend this camper to all. The team at Vista RV were very friendly and knowledgeable and know their product well. Thank you to Lou and his amazing team for helping us make the right choice of camper.
